Job Description:

As a Frontend Engineering Director within our web development practice, you will provide senior technical leadership to key client accounts and internal groups. In this role, you will be responsible for scoping development work, advising clients via technical assessments, leading development projects as oversight of internal or vendor developers, contributing to the development practice’s vision and processes, and occasionally writing code in a pinch.

This is a full-time individual contributor position. We are looking for candidates who can be based out of our Boston, MA or Portsmouth, NH offices, but will consider remote working arrangements for the right candidate. What you’ll do:

  • Provide subject matter expertise to business development team, such as scope and budget estimates, pitch support and conversations with prospective clients
  • Provide technical oversight of project delivery, from initial scoping and architecture planning to hands-on feature execution
  • Complete technical assessments to assess client infrastructure and advise on integration of our proposed front end work within their existing systems
  • Lead clients and development teams through the process of building responsive, inclusive and accessible digital products that work across devices, platforms and browsers while balancing scope and budget considerations
  • Provide subject matter expertise to operations team during the hiring process
  • Clearly communicate technical expertise, processes and best practices to key clients and internal teams
  • Provide strong thought leadership on emerging technologies and contribute to defining and executing upon the vision and processes of the development practice
  • Help define and enforce code quality standards
  • Lead technical architecture efforts for accessible web frontends
  • Lead, mentor and assist contractors and less-experienced team members with complex problems
  • Help define and enforce code quality standards

Experience and Skills

What you’ll need:

  • Background

o Prior experience in a fast-paced digital agency environment or equivalent

o Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience

o Minimum of 7+ years professional experience in web/software development with at least 2 years in a technical leadership role

  • Required Skills

o Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to collaborate often and effectively with team members as well as internal and external stakeholders

o Experience pitching and scoping development work

o Demonstrated history of mentoring junior members of the team

o Expert proficiency in frontend web development technologies (HTML/CSS, SASS/LESS, JavaScript, jQuery, XML/JSON, etc.)

o Expertise with modern frontend frameworks/libraries (Bootstrap, Foundation, Material.io, Angular, Backbone, Typescript, Vue, Nodejs, React/Redux, etc.)

o Expertise in source control principles and tools such as Git and one or more branching strategies such as Git Flow.

o Experience integrating front end interfaces with internal and external services using APIs (REST, HTTP, etc.)

o Expertise in object-oriented analysis regardless of programming language

o Proficiency working in Drupal and Wordpress

o Deep knowledge of the CMS landscape and experience in assessing and choosing the appropriate platform for client/project need

o Understanding of CI/CD DevOps principles and related tools such as Jenkins, Github Actions, Bitbucket Pipelines, Bamboo, etc.

o Experience in software development concepts/methodology/life cycle, especially Agile methodology

o Expertise in architecting and implementing frontends that meet or exceed WCAG 2.1 AA

o Unit/integration testing experience and proficiency in setting up support environments

o Solid grasp of application security and performance optimization techniques

  • Nice to Have Skills

o Full stack programming, including languages like .NET, C++, Java, PHP and Ruby

o Mobile development (Native iOS, Android, jQuery Mobile, etc.)

o Familiarity with microservices technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, and Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS)

o Familiarity with database development such as SQL Server , MySQL, NoSQL

o Familiarity with AWS, Azure and other cloud technologies

o Experience with Adobe Experience Manager, Sitecore and/or other leading CMS platforms
